City Newburgh residents, I believe we have been lied to! There is no way the City of Newburgh is under any financial ruins (The city’s deficit has been estimated at $6 million). The city of Newburgh MUST have a hidden stash of money somewhere. I say this only because the City of Newburgh Police Department is constantly putting themselves behind the eight-ball, to be sued.
Did it really take a firing squad of four (4) police officers to take restrain this 22 year old young man; who they allegedly came at them with a knife. I guess all these officers were suffering from tunnel vision.
The real gut puncher is, just last year the people in this community were fighting against the police layoffs. Since this city has been labeled the murder capital of NYS, adequate police protection is needed. Needless to say, if it takes 4 officers to open fire on 1 man who allegedly had a knife, then we must have too many police officers on the force. Just think maybe these 4 officers might have been included in the initial 15 officers the city originally wanted to layoff.
This is just another case where the City of Newburgh Police Department used excessive measures in handling matters. I guess this is their idea of community policing.
